This season is about transition. Kids head back to school and the days get shorter. Our calendars fill quickly and it's a new year before we even catch our breath. This issue is all about things we fall for and what to do if that goes awry. COVID is coming back with a vengeance so stay safe friends.

MGBW Shuttered. Now What?
The sad news of Mitchell Gold Bob WIlliams' closure last month has shocked the retail home furnishings industry. If you had an unfulfilled order, things may not be so grim. Here are a few ideas to ease the pain.
First, always use a credit card. According to one rep, you have 120 days to recoup funds through your bank. And second, file a claim with your insurance company. Several designers have already reported a full refund was issued within one week.
💡 Try to work with manufacturers who fulfill orders quickly and look for those that allow partial payment upfront.
For some, chances are good the piece may still show up. That is, if it was already completed and in the shipping phase. One designer said she finally received her order from another manufacturer 11 months after they shuttered.
Vendors like Jonathan Wesley Upholstery, whose motto is "you dream it, we build it", may be able to help. According to Danielle Green of Danielle Green Sales Associates, the Taylorsville, NC based company, where one of the MGBW plants was also located, have hired some of the MGBW staff and are helping designers who still want their designs built.
Green says "we can’t get their money back for them but we can build furniture. We are trying to help the community". Pictured below is a favorite custom bench Jonathan Wesley made for one of our residential clients. Fabric by Pindler.

"All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up." Construction is now complete at The Cambridge Apartments in NWDC and ready to be photographed.
Our client has fallen in love with the lower level party room, amazed by how we were able to design the space to feel like it's not actually in a basement.

What we're loving right now... Nearly every week we host a vendor lunch and learn in our office. Not only does this keep our library current but it's a wonderful way to further our knowledge and network.
