THE SCOOP ON DESIGN + TDG

What's "Nov"!

The Latin root word nov means “new” and is the origin of a number of vocabulary words including novel, supernova, and renovate. Fittingly, we're in the business of renovating, strive for each client's novel experience—one that has never happened before and is new to them—and it's officially the month of November. As for supernovas, here's to lighting up the sky for a happy new year and wonderful holiday season.

2024 Kitchen Trends

"People are staying at home especially since the pandemic [and] aging in place" says Amy Gaeta, Trade Representative for Sub-Zero Group Mid-Atlantic.

Customers are craving healthier environments and looking for improved kitchen safety. Connectivity has expanded into kitchens with smart appliances that can alert you when you're out of milk, a door is left open, a service issue occurs or cooking is complete. These safety features provide peace of mind when you're gone for hours at a time or traveling.

With no need for plumbing, a sleek Wolf Built-In Coffee System can install nearly anywhere, including a home office (pictured below courtesy of Wolf Sub-Zero Cove).

There is also an emphasis on better nonslip flooring and more lighting. Recently, we’ve seen a shift from the bling and the bold to more understated lighting that illuminates details such as sconces, undercabinet lighting and linear lighting. In essence, lighting is playing a leading role from more of an understudy’s position. Undercabinet lighting illuminates the gorgeous counter and backsplash in this Bethesda, MD remodel.

Of course we'd be remiss if we didn't mention color. While white kitchens stand the test of time, there’s been a shift to dramatic painted cabinets, giving a kitchen more personality and depth. We applied this aesthetic to the butler’s pantry in this Chevy Chase, MD remodel. The deep blue hue is splashed across the ceiling and the backs of built-in curio cabinets.

And things are feeling bluesy for 2024 with Benjamin Moore's Color of the Year the delightfully violet-and-blue-hued Blue Nova 825 and Sherwin-Williams' Color of the Year the blissful Upward SW 6239.

Let us know if you want to experience a Wolf Built-In Coffee System—and a full suite of Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove products including a live induction cooktop demo—and we'll arrange for your consultation.

The Art of giving

Todd Howard at TOBE Design Group partners with Marine Toys for Tots

Giving back to the community in which we live, work and play is at the heart of our business and the holidays are no exception.

We have once again partnered with Marine Toys for Tots to fulfill Todd's wish that every child receive a gift for the holidays.

Please consider donating on our fundraising page. Every dollar counts so even $5 is appreciated. If you prefer, you can also donate a new, unwrapped toy at our donation box located at PT Sales, 11828 Coakley Circle, Rockville, MD.

Noteworty

Surprise! In September Todd was honored with two awards at the American Society of Interior Designers Gala for outstanding service and media recognition.

We hadn't submitted any projects for awards so Todd was completely taken by surprise and is so grateful to be honored among his peers. This was especially sweet since Todd worked very hard on the planning committee and has since been asked to chair next year's event. Way to go Todd!
